The opportunity

What is retail media?

Retail media lets SPAR sell its own shopper data and touchpoints to the brands it already stocks — Coca-Cola, Unilever, P&G, Mars — so they reach shoppers near the moment of purchase.

Brands buy outcomes across the funnel. Each Footprints AI ad product maps to a stage — from awareness all the way to loyalty — and you earn on every view, priced by outcome.

Your shopper relationships, data and trade execution stay entirely yours.

From store visits to sales uplift.

SPAR markets can connect campaign exposure with real shopper behaviour, basket impact and sales uplift, using Footprints AI closed-loop measurement.

Estimate market opportunity
It starts simple

A SPAR market needs only three things to begin.

No full retail media stack required on day one. Start with a private instance, usable transaction data and one media channel — then expand as readiness grows.

A private instance

A dedicated, white-labelled Footprints AI environment carrying your SPAR branding, analytics and AI models. Yours, not rented.

Transaction data

POS or loyalty data is enough to start. It powers shopper insights and the SKU-and-store attribution that proves real lift to brands.

One media channel

In-store screens, your web shop, the app or loyalty — a single channel is enough to launch and earn from your first campaign.

A short readiness check confirms what's already in place and maps the fastest path to launch.

SPAR Retail Media Programme, answered

This section explains how the preferred supplier framework works for SPAR country organisations, what a market needs to start, and how Footprints AI supports launch, revenue and measurement.

Programme basics

What is the SPAR Retail Media Programme?

The SPAR Retail Media Programme is the international framework that allows individual SPAR Partner Markets to opt in to the Footprints AI retail media platform, launch a private market instance, monetise retail traffic and sell media to external advertisers across available SPAR-owned channels.

Who is it for?

It is for independently owned and operated SPAR retail or wholesale partners in specific countries or territories. Inside each market, the programme is relevant for country leadership, commercial, marketing, loyalty, ecommerce, operations and supplier-facing teams.

What does Footprints AI provide to SPAR markets?

Footprints AI provides the software licence, one-time setup, private instance, ad delivery, scheduling, proof of delivery, audience building, shopper insights, sales measurement, reporting, AI optimisation and optional managed services for media sales, demand generation and campaign operations.

What a market needs

What does a SPAR market need to start?

A SPAR market needs three practical building blocks to begin: a private Footprints AI instance, usable transaction data and at least one media channel. The market does not need the full retail media stack on day one; the readiness audit confirms what can be used first and what should be added later.

What data does a SPAR market need?

The minimum useful data is ePOS or transaction data, ideally connected to SKU, category, store and basket structure. A stronger setup can also use loyalty, CRM, customer profiles, basket insights, SKU/category/store performance and customer satisfaction data where available.

What retail media channels can SPAR activate?

SPAR markets can activate in-store digital surfaces, screens, POS, checkout displays, weigh scales, in-store audio, web and mobile app placements, CRM, email, SMS, loyalty app media and off-site programmatic, social, connected TV and DOOH using first-party audience data.

Revenue, measurement and control

How is retail media revenue estimated?

Retail media revenue is estimated from monthly transactions, available media channels, data maturity, supplier demand, campaign inventory and pricing assumptions. The portal calculator gives an indicative annual opportunity calibrated against the SPAR business-case logic and adjusted for local readiness.

How is sales uplift measured?

Footprints AI links media exposure to actual sales transactions. Where the market data supports it, reporting can include sales value uplift, sales volume uplift, basket incidence, basket composition, SKU-level and store-level attribution, new-to-brand shopper acquisition and incremental ROAS.

Does SPAR keep data ownership and local execution?

Yes. Shopper data, transaction data and customer databases remain the exclusive property of the relevant SPAR Partner. Each market operates in a private instance, with no data, AI models or commercially sensitive information shared between SPAR Partner instances or with other retailers.

What is the first step for a SPAR country organisation?

The first step is to complete the readiness assessment or request a readiness audit. The output is a practical view of current data, usable channels, supplier demand, ownership, business-case potential and the recommended launch path for that market.
